Using the Playlist

Using the Playlist

Recipients can organize selections of songs and releases into customized playlists where they can group and arrange songs into order for their own playback, sharing with others or to help prepare playlists for radio.

Adding to Playlists

Anywhere in the Player they see the + button, they can click to add to an existing playlist or to create a new playlist to put their selection into.

In the Release Summary center modal clicking the + button will put all tracks in the release into a Playlist.

If they scroll through the release’s tracks and click the + button for a track, it will select that track for inclusion in a playlist.

Clicking either will bring up the Playlist add selector dropdown.

By default the top playlist is the Default Playlist (the system list that is available to all users).

Arranged in most recently created order underneath are any user-created Playlists.

The recipient can add their selection to multiple lists by clicking the + icon beside any Playlists shown.

Once added the + icon becomes a checkmark to show it is selected.

The current track in the Player can also be added by clicking the + button.

Create New Playlist

At the bottom of the playlist dropdown selector  is the Create New Playlist button.

This brings up the Create New Playlist modal

After the user fills out the modal and clicks Create, it creates the playlist and populates it with the selected track.

Viewing Playlists

To view playlists the recipient can click the Playlists main menu item on the left.

This will open the Playlists page.

It will show thumbnails and titles of all of the recipient’s playlists sorted by most recently created. They can sort the view by Newest, Alphabetically or Starred / Favorited.

By default for new users there is a Default Playlist (the system requires a playlist to always exist).

Thumbnails show the playlist title, and how many songs are contained within it. The thumbnails will show a partial album title graphic from the release of the most recently added track in the playlist.

Searching for playlist

The user can search for a certain playlist by entering in a title of a playlist at the top.

Hover state

When the user hovers over a playlist, the album graphic underneath will animate to show other album graphics from the playlist from unique releases. The album graphic source will be a scaled and cropped version of the album covers. The number of images rotated will be capped at 5.

Playing a playlist

To play one of the playlists, the recipient will hover over the playlist thumbnail (or click on a tablet) which will reveal a play button. As the user hovers, the album graphic will fade out to briefly show other album graphics from the other tracks in the playlist.

Clicking the play button will pop up a warning to the user that it will replace the current queue.

If the user confirms, the Playlist will play. The queue will show the name of the Playlist and below it a subtitle in italics Playlist

The first track of the Playlist will play.

Favoriting / “Starring” a Playlist

When a Playlist card is hovered over, it will reveal a Star icon

When clicked, this will give the playlist a starred state (with a star state icon).

When the Playlist page is sorted by Starred, all the starred playlists will appear at the top.

To deselect a Playlist as a favorite, the user can click on the star icon again.

Viewing Playlist contents

To see a Playlist’s contents, the recipient can click on the playlist icon. This will open up a page showing all of its tracks.

At the top is the title and the description of the Playlist, which can be renamed by clicking on the pencil edit icon.

Underneath the title and description is a background banner graphic, a randomly chosen graphic from a pool of provided graphics.

This will open up the Edit playlist modal

When the Save button is clicked, the new title and description are shown. A counter will warn them they are going to reach the character limit for title or description.

There is the total time of all the combined tracks in the Playlist.

All of the tracks are displayed below with Artist - Title, Labels and Track Time. Each row is numbered to help identify the track for others when discussing the playlist contents.

Removing a Playlist

To remove a playlist the user has to first go into the Playlist.

Underneath the blue buttons, a more subtle Remove Playlist link is available.

Clicking it will show a confirmation dialog:

Clearing a playlist contents

If the recipient wants to clear all the tracks from the current playlist they can click the darkened Clear List button, darkened to give it less emphasis.

Which the user must confirm:

Playing from a playlist

To play an individual track, the recipient hovers over the album icon and then clicks on the play button when it appears. The track appears in the Player at the bottom.

To play the entire playlist, the recipient just clicks the Play All button at the top.

Each row has the * * * action menu icon. When the recipient clicks to open up the actions for that track, it will show the Download, Remove from Playlist and Add to another playlist options.

Selecting Remove from Playlist will immediately remove that track from the current playlist and refresh the screen to show the new order.

Selecting Add to another playlist will bring up the Add to Playlist dropdown.

Rearranging songs in a Playlist

To rearrange the playlist, the recipient clicks Edit Playlist Order.

By dragging on anywhere in the row, the recipient can drag the track into a different position in the Playlist.

The recipient has to click Save Playlist Order to save the current order.

To clear all the contents of the Playlist, they can click the Clear List button which will have confirmation.

The recipient can export the track order with Artist - Title  and the row numbering as a .pdf by clicking the .pdf button in case they want a printed version for discussion off-line.

Downloading a playlist

There will be a control to download an entire playlist. Doing so will package all of the tracks into a zip as if they were one entire release and will start the download for it.
